Powdered milk, also called milk powder, dried milk, or dry milk, is a manufactured dairy product made by evaporating milk to dryness. One purpose of drying milk is to preserve it; milk powder has a far longer shelf life than liquid milk and does not need to be refrigerated, due to its low moisture content.
Typical applications of milk powder: baked goods, confections, dairy/recombined milk, yogurt, nutritional beverages, prepared foods, sauces & soups, salad dressings, meat, frozen desserts and prepared mixes as: Browning/color – Accentuates color development during cooking and baking.
Powdered milk is healthy, and contributes as a great alternative to regular milk. Dry milk can be used regularly because it offers the same nutritional value as of fresh milk. The process of converting fresh milk to powdered milk includes evaporation or spray drying.
